Mixed Couples Final

As mentioned in a previous post, I'm in the fortunate position that my wife loves Padel (almost) as much as I do. She comes from a tennis background and has a real competitive spirit to do well in all aspects of her life.

On 16 April, we entered our first Mixed Couple Tournament (held at Singpadel) where we came second 🥈. My wife had previously played in other mixed tournaments when I couldn't so we were both really excited that we could play together and we were so happy to have made it to the final. The other couple deservedly won but we had so much fun on the day itself, and of course - socializing in the pub afterwards 🍻

There was a great turnout with 14 teams signing up. The teams were split evenly into 2 pools and each pool was allocated 2 courts. Teams could self manage their schedules as long as every team played one another at least once until each team completed 6 matches of 1 set. The top two teams in each group would then meet in the final. 

The format  was a hit! The flexibility allowed players to take longer breaks if needed, socialize between matches and there was ample time for some great spectating. Bonus points to the organizers who had set up a table with screens so that players could see results and standings in real time!

We also really lucked out with the weather! Most of the week building up to the tournament was rainy and all the apps were predicting the tournament would be interrupted half way - but the Padel gods were on our side! In fact - we got blue skies and the temperature peaked around 37 degrees throughout the day with no rain at all. 

Singpadel were kind enough to bring a cooler box filled with ice, waters and LOADS of 100 Plus - which everyone appreciated given how hot it turned out to be. They also supplied each court with 2 cans of brand new Head balls, and prizes at the end for the winners and runners up. Check out the funky trophies below!

And of course, once all was said and done - there was no better way to cool down than with an few ice cold beers at the local pub. Not that everyone waited that long to get their hands on some beers - like I said, it was a hot day and some contestants snuck off only to return with a tray of beers for everyone (thanks Sunny!)

Personally, I couldn't be prouder of my wife and I. We had so much fun playing together, (like we always do) and to make it to the final was something I will never forget. But above all we met some incredible people, and genuinely made some new friends. It's by far the best thing about Padel, that you meet so many people that are passionate about the sport and love it for the same reasons you do. Massive shoutout to Sebastian, May and everyone at Singpadel for the wonderfully organized tournament, supplying drinks and for the generous prizes. 

This might've been my first Mixed Couples Tournament, but it for sure won't be my last!
